One of the greatest challenges facing marriage therapists and sex therapists alike is helping couples who have fallen into the ‘friend-zone’.  This 3-hour presentation is for any clinician who wishes to gain insight into the underlying sexual and non-sexual issues that result in a sexless marriage.  Participants will also learn some specific approaches to help couples reestablish an erotic relationship.

As a result of attending this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify their own sexual values, biases and countertransferential reactions as they pertain to sexless or low-sex marriages and to explain how these may effect the therapeutic alliance.
  • Describe and dispute four common sexual myths and unrealistic expectations about marital sex.
  • Define the underlying sexual and non-sexual issues that maintain the lack of eroticismin marriage.
  • List four to five tools used to help partners re-define their sexual blueprints with the objective of transforming their marriage from platonic to erotic.
  • Describe the limitations of treatment in terms of effecting change in a platonic marriage.

Cynthia Pizzulli, Ph.D, LCSW, BCD
is a seasoned individual, couples and family psychotherapist.  She is certified as a sex therapist by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). Dr. Pizzulli holds adjunct faculty positions at both Adelphi and Stony Brook University Schools of Social Work.  She has a wide range of clinical experience and has presented various workshops on topics which include sexuality and gender identity, Managing relationships, eating disorders, personality disorders and parenting adolescents.

The space can accommodate approximately 12 people.

The seminar will benefit clinicians at all level of clinical experience.
