For some couples and individuals infertility can be the first life crisis they experience.  It changes the way they perceive themselves and their partners, and challenges their sense of the world as a fair place.  They may have lived lives where hard work produced results.  Suddenly, the rules have changed.  They may see others getting pregnant easily while month after month their own efforts meet with failure.

This presentation will include a description of the medical options available to infertile couples and individuals through reproductive technology—and the difficult decisions these options can create.   It will cover the ways therapists can help their clients make decisions, mourn their losses, develop coping strategies, and possibly change family building goals while managing the wait until they become parents.
