This Presentation focuses on the emergence of spiritual awakening with an exceptional peak experience as an eye movement desensitization and reprocessing [EMDR] therapist becomes a tool of consciousness, moving clients from trauma to their highest potential. A spontaneous integration of higher self or soul is utilized in positive resourcing, adaptive functioning, ego integration, with cognitive interweaves and emotional stabilization and by giving spiritual meaning to past, present, and future, true to the adaptive information processing  (AIP) model. A discussion of literature and research will explain this evolutionary perspective as it converges with science and spirituality. A case presentation and experiential exercise will demonstrate brain integration and processing as links to skills of silent intuitive processes within interconnected field of energy and informational flow in EMDR therapy.

Teaching Methods:  Workshop lecture with PowerPoint, discussion, handouts, video and experiential exercises with audience participants.
HANDOUTS: Bibliography/References

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able:

  1. Identify two theories or studies that support the integration of a transpersonal psychological approach with EMDR therapy, allowing for spiritual consciousness to organically emerge.
  2. Identify three phases and of the EMDR protocol within which the emergence of peak spiritual experiences can facilitate emotional stabilization, positive adaptive resourcing, cognitive interweave and provide new spiritual meaning for past, present, and future.
  3. Describe two intuitive feedback mechanisms, using focusing and inner knowing, which can be integrated into the EMDR protocol, contributing to a nonlinear integrative transpersonal therapy.

Irene Siegel, Ph.D., LCSW, is director of Center Point in Huntington N.Y. where she conducts her integrative EMDR therapy practice and teaches meditation and healing. She studied the ancient healing arts of shamanism throughout North and South America, and teaches the integration of Western psychotherapy with ancient healing arts as depicted in her recently published book The Sacred Path of the Therapist: Modern Healing, Ancient Wisdom, and Client Transformation. As an Approved EMDR Consultant, teacher, and lecturer she has broken through traditional barriers introducing the innovative concept of integrating mindful awareness and resonance into the EMDR protocol.
