Program Description:    The presenter will provide an overview of the history and central concepts of attachment theory, outline how it differs from psychoanalytic and cognitive/behavioral perspectives on normal development, psychopathology and treatment and discuss attachment theory contributions to understanding and treating specific patient populations such as couples, children and those grieving.

Learning Objectives:

1.  Participants will identify two to three assumptions about normal development that underlie attachment theory.

2.  Participants will identify at least three ways that attachment, cognitive/behavioral and psychoanalytic theories differ in their respective views of normal development, pathology and treatment.

3.  Participants will contrast, via case example, how treatment focus, the therapeutic relationship and techniques would differ using an attachment versus a behavioral or analytic perspective.

About the Presenter: Jacinta Cindy Marschke, Ph.D., LCSW has over 45 years of clinical experience and taught clinical courses as a faculty member of the Graduate School of Social Services at Fordham University. She has a special interest in understanding differing models of treatment.
